Move your mouth so that what you say actually sounds German and not like the old Google robot reading German words
You can have an accent and still be understood perfectly, but if your pronunciation is unclear, you'll have trouble being understood. That's because German doesn't sound the same as it's written. So you have to make your mouth move in a certain way for the standard sounds.
But if you don't know what sounds a word consists of, you'll just guess it from the written form and replace it with similar sounds of your native language. The result is German words that don't exist, and without seeing the word, a German-speaker won't understand it.

What level will I be after I finish the challenge?
If you put in the work and proceed consistently, you can expect to reach an intermediate level (B1-B2). But of course you should apply what you have learned in real life by watching things in German with German subtitles and texting to people in German and even better communicate with the German speakers around you.
How much time should I dedicate learning?
inGerman Decode is composed of daily exercises and weekly live classes, so there is a lot of content! If you dedicate around 1 hour every day or 1.5 hours every second day, you will be able to create a new routine very soon. You should at least have 3–4 hours per week to for making significant progress.

Do I get a certificate of completion at the end?
After completing the 10-week course, you will receive a certificate to showcase your progress in German over that period. This certificate signifies your dedication to improving your language skills. Although it is not intended for job applications, as no course provides such a certificate, you will need to take an in-person exam to demonstrate your language proficiency officially. While this course will enhance your language abilities, we are not authorized to conduct these exams or issue official certificates. The Goethe Institute or TELC handles these assessments.

A great course
The In-German Decoded class was a great class and a very good learning experience. In-German Decoded is an on-line course, but it is also very interactive. The course covered a lot of material beyond the usual grammar and vocabulary. Of course, there were lessons on grammar and vocabulary, but Jennifer also included videos on pronunciation and helpful hints on how to remember vocabulary. For me, the best part of the course was Jennifer herself. She quickly responded to all questions. At the end of each week there was an opportunity to demonstrate what the student learned that week (through an exercise called Final Tasks in which the student sends a video of themself speaking German) and for Jennifer to provide feedback. Jennifer is a very patient instructor, who corrects a student’s mistakes while providing positive reinforcement and encouragement. I would highly recommend In-German Decoded to anyone seeking an intermediate German language course.

Speaking!!!
I studied with Jennifer in her In-German Decoded class for 10 weeks to prepare for an immersive German language experience in Berlin. My vocab and grammar improved so much, and my spoken German improved by leaps and bounds! She was so patient with me; I was afraid to speak German at first because it wasn’t perfect, but I feel freed by her statement that was in essence, “Fluency comes by speaking, all else will come later.” So I just starting speaking, rightly or wrongly, and if I was wrong or could have said it better, she kindly let me know. She did not want to silence me! And she was correct—grammar and vocab did come later. Jennifer also was available anytime for questions or concerns. Unfortunately I became quite ill at the end of the class and she gave me grace to finish after I recover. Though this process I also feel I’ve gained a friend. I totally recommend this class to anyone. Jennifer is the best!
